Fiscal Responsibility

On the day President Obama took office, the national debt was 10.6 trillion dollars. In seven short years, he has almost doubled that; we are now more than 19 TRILLION dollars in debt.

To put that in everyday terms, that’s like someone making about $37,000 dollars a year having more than $190,000 in credit card debt.

Stimulus spending, bailouts for Wall Street, local education, AMTRAK, alternative energy development, transportation programs… the list of federal spending programs that can be cut can go on and on. The inability of the federal government to balance its budget is irresponsible and devastating to our economic growth. Worse, we are recklessly enslaving our children and grandchildren with unsustainable debt.

Our out of control spending is one of the main issues that weighed on my mind when I decided to first run for Congress. I am proud to say that over the past three years in Congress I have supported measures to reduce our deficit by more than 50 percent. We still have a long way to go before we can claim victory, but I will continue the work to restore fiscal sanity and a balanced budget.
